Bayer Leverkusen has issued an update regarding Nigerian striker Victor Boniface, who remains sidelined due to a thigh injury sustained during a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda. Boniface, who has been out of action for seven weeks, has missed eight games for Leverkusen, including five Bundesliga fixtures.

Although Boniface resumed full training before Christmas, he was not included in the squad for Sunday’s friendly against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. The club confirmed that his recovery has experienced a minor setback, delaying his return.

Boniface’s last competitive match was on November 9th in a 1-1 draw against VfL Bochum. Prior to his injury, the 23-year-old was in stellar form, scoring eight goals in 15 for Leverkusen.

In Boniface's absence, Patrik Schick has stepped up as the primary striker, delivering commendable performances. Additionally, Leverkusen bolstered their attacking options during the January transfer window by signing Alejo Sarco from CA Vélez Sarsfield.
