This web page outlines the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code (i.e., Fire Prevention Code or SFPC) fire security requirements and prohibitions related to the operation and storage of portable heating tools in Fairfax County and the towns of Clifton, Herndon, Alpha Heater official site and Vienna. It doesn't tackle open-flame cooking units, portable outside fireplaces, compact room heater or the set up and maintenance of non-portable heating appliances. The intent of this page is to supply information to assist stop undesirable fires resulting from the unlawful or unsafe operation and/or storage of portable heating tools. Outside Storage/Use Permit. Where more than 10 gallons (i.e., 42.5 pounds) of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is stored and/or used outside, a fireplace Prevention Code Permit (FPCP) is required. Shall be installed and maintained in accordance with the itemizing and instructions. Shall be operated only in places for which they are listed. Shall be plugged directly into an permitted receptacle. Shall not be plugged into extension cords. Shall not be operated inside three ft of any combustible supplies. Heating parts shall be permanently guarded in order to prevent unintentional contact by persons or materials. Group I-2 Exception. Using portable, Alpha Heater product page electric space heaters through which the heating element can't exceed a temperature of 212°F shall be permitted in non-sleeping staff and employee areas in occupancies in Group I-2.
